34 Bitcoin Terms A to Z

Term 13 - How to buy/sell bitcoin?

You can buy or sell bitcoin via an exchange. I use CoinBase but there are many others.
  • CoinBase
  • Gemini
  • FTX
  • Binance - Not available in NY state and I don't trust them because they took my social security number even though I couldn't sign up.

Most of these will require you to provide this type of information and maybe even a drivers license.

You can also buy Bitcoin or Ethereum via an ETF (Exchange Traded Funds) via a broker like Fidelity.com.
  • GBTC - Greyscale Bitcoin Trust
  • ETHE - Greyscale Ethereum Trust
  • GLDC
  • BITO
  • BTF

If you buy via a broker/ETF you won't hold the coins, and in some cases, the coins are backed by future contracts.

You can also buy Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies via a DEX (Decentralized Exchange)
  • Uniswap

Someone could send you Bitcoin to your wallet.
  • You must have a wallet, you can use this link to choose a wallet
  • You must know someone with Bitcoin
  • You must give them your public key
  • They must send you some amount of Bitcoin
